Blue BI becomes a partner of 3Bee for bees protection

In September 2022, Blue BI began a collaboration with 3Bee, a company dedicated to improve bee health and protect biodiversity through the use of unique and innovative technologies. These technologies allow for the monitoring of bees’ needs and intervention when they are unwell. Bees are a crucial link in the entire food chain but are not resilient enough to withstand climate change, pesticides, diseases, parasites, predators, and toxic clouds.

About 3Bee

3Bee develops IoT technologies and services for biodiversity and collaborates with major companies in the fields of winemaking, beekeeping, and pig farming.

The core idea of 3Bee is to combine biology, electronics, and artificial intelligence to make a real contribution to biodiversity. The company is creating a team of people with diverse experiences and profiles who are passionate about nature, technology, and the environment.

Beekeepers, using 3Bee’s technology, can constantly monitor their hives remotely and comprehensively to optimize management and production, save time, and care for their bees by preventing problems and diseases.

Currently, there are 10,000 beekeepers who utilize 3Bee’s innovative capabilities, thanks to the application of technologies such as IoT sensor networks, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to analyze bee health.

Blue BI's Commitment

Tech Hive Adoption

In collaboration with 3Bee, Blue BI has decided to adopt a tech hive that will allow the monitoring and protection of 300,000 bees and the pollination of 3 million flowers in a year. Other environmental and social impacts include:

  • Support for 1 local beekeeper
  • Environmental biomonitoring with analysis
  • Environmental education and awareness

The technology behind tech hives can reduce hive mortality by 30%, cut management costs by 70%, and increase productivity by about 20%.

Tree Planting

In addition to adopting a hive to protect bee health, Blue BI has decided to plant 200 native trees to reduce its environmental impact. Benefits of this choice include:

  • 308 kg of nectar produced in a year
  • 560,000 bees fed per year
  • 17.34 tons of CO2 absorbed in a year
  • Support for 2 local growers

A nectar forest provides pasture for all pollinators, preventing starvation deaths, and contributes to the fight against climate change through CO2 absorption. By planting 200 selected native trees, we support the protection of ecosystems and local biodiversity, as well as the social and economic power of the grower.

Specifically, Blue BI has decided to plant 100 trees in Piedmont with the help of “La Fattoria di Tata Morena” by Morena Mameli, an educational farm in the province of Cuneo that aims to raise awareness among children about the importance of respecting nature and biodiversity. The trees to be planted include white willow, hazel, cherry, wild apple, and wild pear.

In Calabria, Marco Cirillo, a young entrepreneur with a degree in Agriculture and Landscape Architecture, who has decided to reforest his land and create a biodiversity oasis to generate a strong local impact, will help us create a forest of 100 trees including eucalyptus, wild lime, blackthorn, wild apple, cherry, hawthorn, field maple, and Judas tree. Marco’s goal is to raise awareness among nearby companies and convey the importance of new agronomic techniques through the planting of forest species that can improve the soil and productions.

With this partnership, Blue BI once again demonstrates its commitment to environmental sustainability.
