SAP Datasphere: what is it?
SAP Datasphere is the latest innovation in SAP‘s cloud data warehousing portfolio, providing immediate and scalable access to mission-critical enterprise data. Built on the SAP HANA Cloud (public cloud), it follows a Data Warehouse as a Service approach in the public cloud with very rapid release cycles of approximately every two weeks. SAP Datasphere enables a business data fabric architecture that uniquely harmonizes critical data across the organization and provides unified, secure, and timely access to data for authorized users, regardless of the data’s original location or format.
What are the features of SAP Datasphere?
The overall architecture of SAP Datasphere consists of the following components:
Space Management
Users can create customized spaces based on business needs and monitor them. Data is modeled within various spaces, and users and data source connections can be added. Spaces are decoupled yet open for flexible access, with customizable dimensions, storage types, and importance levels.
Data Integration and Data Flow
Data Integration and Data Flow: This component allows connecting data from local and cloud sources, both SAP and non-SAP, virtually replicating them in real-time or scheduled via data flows powered by SAP Data Intelligence. Data Flow enables graphical interface modeling of flows that prepare and transform data using APIs and scripting to meet advanced requirements.
Data Builder
Define data models using the graphical tool or SQL editor. In the data layer, data is combined and harmonized in a unified and standardized manner using available editors such as:
- Table Editor
- Graphical View Editor
- SQL View Editor
- Entity Relationship Editor
- Analytic Model Editor
- Data Flow Editor
- Intelligent Lookup Editor
- Replication Flow Editor
- Task Chain Editor.
Business Builder
Model business analysis scenarios using the graphical tool, creating a layer independent of data. This layer prepares data for consumption using business language to answer common questions independently of IT.
Connectivity and data integration settings, database access, audit and monitoring settings, and overall security definition at all levels are part of the Administration and Security functions.

Business catalog
Offers a unified view of all objects in the system such as KPIs, definitions, and analysis dimensions. It is used to organize and curate data according to business needs.
Business content
Provides a wide set of content provided by SAP and managed by partners to accelerate application development.
For data analysis exposed by SAP Datasphere, SAP Analytics Cloud solution can be used alternatively in Excel through SAP Analytics Cloud add-in for Microsoft Excel or with preferred SQL tools or BI clients and OData Service.
SAP Datasphere can be used to provide an advanced analytics experience by facilitating the training of machine learning (ML) models on different platforms (e.g., using HANA Machine Learning Library (hana_ml) in SAP HANA and using Federated-ML Library (FedML).
Why migrate to SAP Datasphere?
With SAP Datasphere, it is possible to simplify the data landscape by harmonizing heterogeneous data from SAP applications and other sources, providing a unified data ecosystem for every data consumer. Despite SAP Datasphere being a recent introduction as an innovative product, the Blue BI team has already conducted a thorough study on it. Leveraging our established expertise in SAP products in the Analytics domain, we are ready to guide and support you in selecting the optimal path to transition to this new architecture.
